Forgotten passwords can be a hassle for both users and IT departments. Thankfully, Azure AD offers Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR), allowing users to reset their passwords without needing IT support. Here’s a quick guide on how to enable it.

What is SSPR?

SSPR lets users reset or unlock their passwords securely using verification methods like email, phone, or security questions—saving time and reducing helpdesk calls.

Prerequisites:

  • Azure AD Premium P1 or P2 license.
  • Admin permissions (Global or Password Administrator).

Steps to Enable SSPR:

  1. 1. Sign in to Azure Portal:

  2. 2. Access Entra AD ( Azure AD) :

    • In the search bar, find Azure Active Directory and select it.
  3. 3. Configure Password Reset:

    • Go to Password reset under the Manage section.
    • Choose Selected (for specific groups) or All to enable SSPR for all users.
  4. 4. Set Authentication Methods:

    • Choose how users will verify their identity: phone, email, security questions, or mobile app.
    • Set the number of required methods (recommend two for security).
